Inhale/ Exhale resilience building programmes

Inhale/Exhale is our community mental health support offer. Funded through grants, donations and fundraising events, it enables us to offer a limited number of spaces every year to children and young people who need some extra support.

We believe that the earlier a child a receives support, the better it is for them, their family, their community and society as a whole.

Support is offered over 12 sessions which may be provided by a therapeutic mentor, counsellor or other professional.

The programme is free to access; if a parent/carer is able to, they can make a donation to Family Compass to enable us to support more families, but the service they receive will be exactly the same regardless of whether they are able to donate or not.

Inhale/Exhale is uniquely tailored according to the needs of each child or young person. Children are supported to develop an awareness and understanding of their feelings, to explore how their brains work, how they react in stressful situations and how they can manage their feelings when they threaten to overwhelm them.

Over 12 weeks they’ll do loads of fun and interesting activities which will challenge them to notice their strengths and find positive ways to respond when things get tough.

This flexible programme can be delivered:

  • Face to face
  • Online
  • In groups of up to 8
  • One to one
  • With parent/carer and child together

This service is only available where a child is not already receiving support from a professional for their mental health. Unfortunately, we get many more requests for help than we have spaces, and we will not be able to offer support to everyone.

We hope that one day funding for early intervention like this will be prioritised, and everyone will get the help they need, when they need it.
