We were thrilled to welcome Ian Roome, our local MP, to Family Compass last week – and what a great visit it was!
Ian isn’t just another politician ticking boxes. Although originally from the North, Ian has deep roots in our community, and it truly shows. Having lived and worked in the area for many years, Ian brings genuine insight into the unique challenges we face – not just as a children’s mental health charity, but as part of a wider network supporting families across Barnstaple and beyond.
During his visit, Ian showed real curiosity and compassion. He listened closely, asked thoughtful questions, and showed a clear understanding of the pressures facing mental health services for young people. It was refreshing and heartening to see a leader who not only gets it, but who is ready to advocate for meaningful change.
We left the meeting feeling hopeful – and we definitely need a bit of hope right now!
