Jo Weir, Therapeutic Life Story Work researcher

I completed a Certificate in Education with Greenwich University quite a few years ago now.

I taught in post 16 education to young people and adults with learning difficulties and disabilities at a college in Essex. I had many great moments teaching but my passion was to experience some travel to other places. My employers offered me a six month sabbatical for travel purposes which I made use of across Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. When I returned to work 6 months later, something had changed…I felt different about my life and I wanted something else.

I moved to London and then began many years in the civil service, working in central government. I had roles working for The National Archives at Kew as Office Manager and PA, DEFRA as the diary manager to the Chief and Deputy Chief Veterinary Officers for the UK and then to the Veterinary Laboratories Agency as Deputy Records Officer. I moved to NSW Australia and secured a role working for the State Emergency Service, again managing the life cycle of documents. I stayed in Australia for seven years before returning, now with my own family, to Devon in 2017. In my last role I worked for North Devon Council on a project for 3 years as Data Capture Officer.

Through my life experiences I have become more resilient and I look forward to a time when I can explore what this amazing world has to offer! For now, I spend my free time with my family, mainly at the beach and walking our dog. I also work at my allotment which is a great way to stay fit and to let go of the stresses of the day.
