Emma Burridge, Play Therapist

I was 15 when I had my school work experience in an opportunity group with young children with additional needs. This ignited a spark in me and over the past 20 years my passion has developed into a career.

The next step was attending college where I completed a BTEC in Childhood Studies and Education. During this course I was fortunate to experience many different placements including hospitals, schools, and private homes.

After finishing a BA in Sociological Studies at Cheltenham University, I moved to Devon to work as a Child Development Specialist for the NHS. I worked with children whose needs ranged from speech and language delays to complex needs.

In 2008 my husband and I combined our skills and started The Wholelife Project which is a specialist centre for adults and young people with additional needs. During this time we have provided intervention for people from the age of 4 to 70 years old! We have extensive experience working with special schools, EBD schools, care homes and individual families.

After 13 years of working for Wholelife, I felt was time to complete my studies to become a Play Therapist. I am now a qualified Certified Play and Creative Arts Therapist. My governing body is PTUK (Play Therapy UK) who are members of the PSA (Professional Standards Agency). I have always been drawn to working therapeutically with people as it provides tools for individuals to develop their self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence. I really love what I do and look forward to helping individuals develop their potential.
