Many families need therapeutic support following adoption or a Special Guardianship order. These children have often experienced early trauma and separation and may find it hard to form relationships, developing challenging coping strategies.
At Family Compass we have a skilled therapeutic team who have many years’ experience of supporting children and families post-adoption or with a Special Guardianship order.
The Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF) was introduced in 2016. Up to £3000 per year is available per child to fund specific therapies. Some of these are listed here.
To access the Fund, the local authority will need to provide an assessment of your family’s support needs, normally through a social worker. If the assessment identifies that therapeutic support would be of benefit, the social worker applies to the adoption support fund. They will explore therapeutic support options available with you.
